WARWICK, RI — If you haven’t been out to see a movie in a while, and given what’s been going on the last couple of years, that’s understandable, it might almost feel like you’ve stepped into a time machine — one that puts you in the future — when you return to Showcase Cinema de Lux – Showcase de Lux Warwick – on Quaker Lane.
The longtime mainstay in Warwick recently underwent a massive renovation, including updates to every part of the moviegoing experience.
Suffice it to say, this isn’t the Warwick Showcase Cinemas you grew up with.
For starters, everything about your visit — from booking seats to ordering concessions — can be preordered online, so that you don’t have to wait in lines to find your movie.
You’ll also see some familiar names gracing the concession menu, including Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, Uno Express Pizzas, Pretzel Depot Hand-Rolled Pretzels, and Starbucks Coffee.
When it comes to drinks, the updated location offers Coca-Cola Freestyle machines and ICEE slushies, and another feature that you’d rarely, if ever, see in a movie theater: Hand-crafted cocktails on tap, premium spirits, and craft beers that can be enjoyed in the auditorium or in the comfy lounge seating area.
But as we all know, the real show is inside the auditorium — the new Showcase Cinemas de Lux delivers, with the addition of advanced-tech visual and audio systems: The new XPlus auditorium offers laser projection, Dolby Atmos™ immersive sound, and a huge, two-story tall, wall-to-wall screen.
Mark Malinowski, Vice President of Global Marketing for Showcase Cinemas, explains: “XPlus has proven to be our most popular movie-going format across all of our cinemas and we are so excited its being so well received in Rhode Island.”
A recent visit to watch Top Gun: Maverick showed that the theater lives up to the hype — online ordering for tickets and food was intuitive and quick; the recliners are super comfy; and the visuals and sound made for a truly immersive experience.
If you’ve been thinking that it’s time to get back to seeing movies the way they were meant to be seen — on a giant screen with an incredible sound system and dozens of fellow movie fans reacting to every joke, surprise, or scare — it’s easy to join the theater’s Starpass loyalty program for regular discounts on purchases and $5 back for every $50 you spend.
Pair that with the Showcase Subscribe plan, and you can watch 5 movies per month with no blackout dates and flexible format options, starting at $9.50 per month.
And if you’re watching the mercury hover in the high 90s event though summer’s over, there is special pricing on Senior Wednesdays with every movie at $7.75 and discounts on select concession items.
Bottom line: If you have been thinking about going back to the movies, now’s a great time to leave your sofa behind.
