Warwick, RI — The entrance to the city’s walking path through Rocky Point is scheduled to close on Oct. 2 for one day, Mayor Scott Avedisian announced on Tuesday.
Fencing along the roadway is scheduled for removal, leading to the closure, the mayor said in a press release.
“The City of Warwick continues to work collaboratively with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to ensure that this project remains on schedule,” Avedisian said in the statement. “We appreciate our residents’ ongoing cooperation as this property is being transformed into a beautiful coastal park.”
Earlier this summer, the DEM shut down part of the walking path in front of the former Shore Dinner Hall, and the area has been a target for vandals, including an Aug. 11 incident that caused nearly $17,000 in damage to construction equipment.
DEM has been demolishing the remaining structures on the 41-acre site to make way for future public use.
