PROVIDENCE, RI— The Rhode Island Hospitality Association (RIHA), Allied Chapter, has named Marina Plowman of Warwick and Jay Romero of Somerset, MA as 2022
Employees of the Year.
The award recognizes outstanding achievements of employees in the hospitality, food service, tourism and allied industries. Award recipients are chosen by their bosses, co-workers and their customers.
Plowman, a resident services professional at Regency Plaza Apartments in Providence, where she places residential lease holders, and, occasionally, commercial renters, at the 434-apartment complex, enjoys the work.
“I enjoy it a lot,” Plowman said, “It’s very rewarding.”
She said knowing that the people she works with are being settled into comfortable homes is part of that rewarding assessment.
“The rewarding part is making them comfortable, living with us,” Plowman said, “You want them to be happy. You want them to enjoy their time here.”
She said that while she also helps place commercial renters, those customers are generally long term, in the 5-year range, so statistically, she sees fewer of them.
Plowman said the people likely responsible for nominating her for the award were her boss, Lease Manager Michaela Roberti, Carol Camiel, property manager, and Donna Coccia, rental manager.
She said her co-workers were very stealthy about their work to honor her. “I had no idea,” Plowman said.
Since Plowman wasn’t aware of the nomination, she also didn’t know that Romero, Facilities Service Manager, was being nominated, but she says it’s well-deserved nonetheless.
“He’s great to work with. He’s always there, he manages his people extremely well,” Plowman said, “He’s a pleasure to work with. We love having him in the company.”
