WARWICK, RI — When Officer Connor Bemis asked if there were anything illegal in the red 2004 Volvo he’d just stopped, the driver was “not sure,” but the officer cleared that up and arrested the driver.

Following an inspection fo the Volvo’s interior, Bemis charged the driver, Leonard J. Cady, Jr., 49, of 195 Pawtucket Ave., Pawtucket, RI, with possession of a schedule I-V substance. That charge was the result of 3 grams of Crack Cocaine worth $30 and 20MG of Morphine Sulfate worth $50.

As the two spoke, Bemis noted Cady’s pupils were very dilated, a symptom of stimulant use, according to the officer’s report. He was also carrying Choreboy on the floor of the car, which is used when smoking crack cocaine, according to the officer’s report.

Bemis searched the car and found a small plastic bag containing a white powder later identified as crack cocaine. Additional searching also turned up a white container labeled “Morphine Sulfate 20MG/ML,”

City Towing took the car from the scene, and Bemis took Cady to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where the suspected cocaine field tested as cocaine, and the Morphine Sulfate was transported to a lab for testing.

Bemis charged Cady with possession of a controlled Schedule 1-V substance, and cited him for driving without a car registration.
