WARWICK, RI — RIDOT announces daytime alternating lane closures before and after the Division Street Bridge on Rte. 4  as the $22.9 million project crews build the center pier and abutment walls for the new bridge.

The agency says the following traffic alerts are in place this week at the Rte. 4/Rte. 95 split in East Greenwich:

  •  Rte. 4 South, from I-95 South to Division St. off-ramp – alternating lane closures for construction, Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Rte. 4 North, from Rte. 403 to Exit 9B – alternating lane closures for construction, Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The 54-year-old Division Street Bridge, built in 1967, is an important link for many residents and businesses in both communities, serves 14,000 vehicles daily, RIDOT reports. It’s one of many deficient bridges in Rhode Island needing expensive interim repair projects to remain in service.

In November, RIDOT installed a temporary bridge over Rte. 4 as the new bridge work and demolition of the old bridge began.
