Editor’s note: The following Warwick, RI arrests were reported by the RI State Police on their website. An arrest reflects charges against an individual, and does not indicate guilt or innocence.
On Thursday, Sept. 17, at 5:37 p.m., a trooper stopped a motorist for speeding on Rte. 95 North in Warwick.
The driver was identified as Isiah Williams, 29, of 175 Second Ave., Woonsocket. The lone passenger inside the vehicle was identified as Yessenia Boria Verdejo, 33, of 620 Fairmount St., Woonsocket.
During the stop, the trooper caught a strong smell of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. A check of Williams revealed that his Massachusetts Driver’s License had been suspended. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in troopers seizing vacuum sealed plastic bundles of marijuana from a backpack located in the rear seat and a duffel bag located in the trunk.
The packages of marijuana seized weighed 4.7 pounds, worth about $1,000. Both Williams and Verdejo were arrested without incident, transported to the Wickford Barracks , held overnight, and brought before the Honorable Judge Mary E. McCaffrey at 3rd District Court for a formal Arraignment.
Williams was charged with:
1. Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver (1 kilogram to 5 kilograms),
2. Driving While in Possession of a Controlled Substance, and
3. Operating on a Suspended License.
Williams was held as a bail violator from a previous felony charge of Possession of a Stolen Motor vehicle from Sept. 2, 2015 and remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions with a violation hearing scheduled for Thursday Oct. 1, 2015.
Verdejo was charged with:
1. Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver (1 kilogram to 5 kilograms).
Verdejo was released on fifty-thousand dollars Personal Recognizance.
Traffic stop nabs court scofflaw At 12:55 a.m. Sept. 16, troopers arrested Nicholas Parrillo, 21, of 31Sprague Ave., Cranston, for a Third District Court Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear for Payment Review for the charge of Misdemeanor Shoplifting originating out of the Warwick Police Department.
The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Rte. 37, in Warwick. Parrillo was transported to the Lincoln Woods Barracks, processed and later turned over to the Adult Correctional Institution- Men’s Intake Center.
Man wanted in Seekonk, Portsmouth, Providence, and Warwick, arrested in Woonsocket On Thursday, Sept. 17 at 12:20 p.m., troopers arrested Nickia T. Johnson, 19, of 110 Vandewater Street, 1st Floor, Providence, RI, for 1) Fugitive from Justice for Possession of Counterfeited Checks from the Seekonk Police Department, 2) Affidavit and Arrest Warrant for Larceny from the Portsmouth Police Department, 3) Providence Superior Court Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear for Payment Scheduled Restitution on the original charge of Larceny from the Smithfield Police Department and 4) Kent County Superior Court Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear for Payment Scheduled Restitution on the original charge of Larceny from the Warwick Police Department. This arrest was the result of an investigation and subsequently locating the subject on Main Street in the City of Woonsocket.
Warwick man extradited to Massachusetts On Sept. 17, a member of the Major Crimes Unit assigned to the Adult Correctional Institutions charged inmate Matthew Andrade, 27, having a last known address of 59 Pinehurst Ave., Warwick, as a Fugitive from Justice from the State of Massachusetts.
Andrade was wanted in Rehoboth, MA for a variety of robbery and breaking and entering charges, according to the Rehoboth Police Department.
Andrade was arraigned in Third Division District Court, where extradition proceedings were waived. Andrade was remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions to await Massachusetts authorities.
