Warwick, RI – When DEA agents called in Warwick Ptlm. Paul Wells and his partner K9 Fox, for a second look at some suspicious packages May 15 at 10:15 a.m., the duo uncovered 90lbs of marijuana worth $90,000.
“Their dogs didn’t alert to it and our dog did,” Wells said.
Wells said he and Fox were asked to check out a lineup of 30 boxes, with the three
suspicious boxes mixed in. Fox zeroed in on the boxes DEA agents were curious about, in which they found the marijuana.
When the boxes were opened, the reason the DEA dogs missed the marijuana was apparent. The drugs were encased in a layer of foam, wrapped in foil and sealed in red cellophane, which was coated in a flowery-scented oil to further throw off the scent.
The DEA assist was one of many calls the Warwick Police Department responded to in May:
577- offense reports
229- arrests
408- vehicle crashes
930-citiations
