Warwick, RI – Warwick Police have identified the man struck by a car Wednesday afternoon in a West Shore Road crosswalk as well as the driver, and say unlit headlights may have contributed to the incident.
According to information police released Thursday afternoon, John Lacki, 64, of Spadina Avenue in Warwick was struck at about 4 p.m. Wednesday as he crossed in the marked crosswalk outside the Connimicut Post Office.
Police identified the driver of the 2006 Saturn that struck him as Joseph Woods, 18, of Bellman Avenue in Warwick. Woods was  driving westbound on West Shore Road at the time.
Lacki was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Warwick Fire Rescue with serious injuries, and remained in serious condition as of Thursday.
Police say witnesses report Woods may not have had his car’s headlights on at the time, which may have contributed to the incident.
The Traffic Division’s Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate, but criminal charges are not likely and it does not appear alcohol was involved, police report.
Police ask any person with information or anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at (401)468-4200.
