WARWICK, RI — Contract mediator attorney Vincent Ragosta reports the Warwick Teachers Union and Warwick School Committee have reached a tentative agreement to replace the teachers contract that expired in 2015.
On Monday, after a third day in as many weeks that mass teacher absences forced classes canceled at Warwick Public Schools, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian expressed hope that a Wednesday negotiation session between the two parties would resolve the years-long contract dispute.
Avedisian released a statement that day saying that he “remains hopeful that a mediation session planned for Wednesday will assist in moving both parties closer to resolution.”
That hope was realized about 30 minutes into Thursday morning. The state-appointed mediator reported the agreement was reached at about 12:30 a.m. in Mayor Scott Avedisian’s office, according to statement the Mayor’s office released Thursday morning.
Over the next few days, the necessary documentation will be processed to execute the tentative agreement, Avedisian reported.
Editor’s note: Ragosta scheduled a press conference for 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, where he is expected to announce details of the agreement.
