Warwick, RI – Tonight, revelers worldwide will ‘toast’ the new year, following the ancient tradition of raising a glass of wine in honor of the mundane and godly – to welcome a new year of possibilities, goals and challenges.

In ancient times, the Greeks would place a piece of burnt toast in their wine to temper the acidity, according to the website intowine.com. The practice was often led by the host, who performed the ritual of sipping from the wine first to assure guests it had not been poisoned. Poison was a popular political and social tool at the time.

NYLO Hotel – The New York-trendy hotel on Knight Street hosts its won New Year’s celebration tonight, where $265 will get you a guest Room for 2, 3 Course dinner for 2, a bottle of wine with dinner,  champagne toast at midnight,  DJ music & dancing and party favors.
