WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police were called for a Grand Avenue assault March 21 at 4:37 p.m. for a neighbor who crossed the street to punch his neighbor in the head, arresting the man for assault.
When police arrived at the address, they spoke with the victim, learning that he had been sitting in his car at his house when his neighbor, Anthony Andujar, 24, of 8 Grand Ave. crossed the street to punch him in the head, according to Officer Michael Maccarone’s report.
Officers spoke with a neighbor, also a resident at 8 Grand Ave., who said she had been in her house when she heard Andujar yelling at the victim, and went outside to find the men arguing. She said Andujar, who had been on his way to work, left shortly after the argument. She described her neighbors across the street as rude, revving cars and swearing loudly at night. She said they are argumentative and confrontational when she attempts to confront them about their behavior, according to the report.
The victim told officers that as he was attempting to leave in his car, Andujar confronted him about causing a disturbance outside the previous night. Andujar accused him of using racial slurs, the victim said, according to the report. The victim said he denied that and tried not to engage with Adjujar, but the man became irate, and crossed the street to punch him as he sat in the driver’s side front seat of his car.
The victim said he attempted to block Andujar’s punches by putting up his foot, and called for someone to call the police.
The victim’s girlfriend told officers as the couple was getting into the car Andujar complained about the noise the previous night, then crossed the street onto her property. She told him several times to get off the property, but Andujar replied, “Do something about it, b***h,” opened the driver’s side door and started punching her boyfriend in the head.
Another witness, the owner of the victim’s home, asked that all the residents of 8 Grand Avenue be issued no trespass orders for the property, according to the report.
Maccarone asked Andujar to return to the property to speak about the assault. When he returned, he told the officer. Andujar said that as he was confronting the victim about making noise and yelling racial slurs the previous night, the man began yelling back at him, making him upset and “triggered,” causing him to punch the victim in the head.
Maccarone arrested Andujar and transported him to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where he was charged with one count of Simple Assault/and or Battery, and one count of disorderly conduct.
