COVENTRY, RI — Coventry firefighters and trucks from West Warwick responded to a call for smoke in the basement at 38 King St. Dec. 1 at about 3:40 p.m., determining the cause of the smell to be coming from a faulty refrigerator.

“It came in as an odor in the house,” said Hopkins Hill Fire Chief Frank Brown, who exited the home at  about 3:50  p.m. with fellow Coventry firefighters.

Several trucks from Coventry and West Warwick, including one rescue, responded to the call Sunday, sirens sounding as they headed up Hopkins Hill Road to meet Coventry Engines  5 and 7, which remained on scene briefly after it was determined there was no fire.
