Warwick, RI – Warwick Police received a call from a man who was following a green 2003 Saturn operating erratically May 24 at about 12:41 a.m., then kept watch until officers arrested and charged the offending driver with DUI.
Officer Christopher Cote received a call from WPD dispatch telling him a man was following an erratic driver weaving in and out of lanes. The man followed the green 2003 Saturn to 145 Woodcrest St., keeping an eye on it until Cote arrived, according to the officer’s report.
Cote spoke with the Saturn’s driver, later identified as Kayla Young, 23, of 145 Woodcrest Road, Warwick, asking if she knew why he’d stopped her. Young said she works third shift and was sleepy, which explained her erratic driving.
Cote reported that he could detect an odor of alcohol on her breath, and that her eyes were bloodshot and watery. He asked Young to peform some sobriety tests, which she agreed to, then failed.
Young showed a lack of smooth pursuit in her vision, lost her balance during the walk and turn and put her foot down during the one-leg stand.
Cote arrested Young and transported her to the Warwick Police Headquarters, where she was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
