WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police report a 28-year-old East Greenwich woman drowned Thursday at about 9:48 p.m. while swimming at Conimicut Point Beach.
Warwick Police identified the woman as Nicolette Biber, 28, of East Greenwich.
“Our deepest condolences are with the family of Nicolette,” Warwick Police wrote in the statement about their efforts to rescue the woman. “We cannot overstate the dangers of swimming at night, in the dark, and in unfamiliar areas where tides and high winds may make conditions unpredictable.”
According to police, Nicolette and a 40-year-old male friend visited the park, planning to go night swimming. As the man spread a blanket on the beach, at the east end where the sand bar begins, Nicolette entered the water. Shortly after, she submerged and didn’t surface. Warwick Police responded to the call for the missing woman at about 9:48 p.m.
Several agencies responded to search for the woman, including Warwick Police, Warwick Fire, the Naragansett Bay Marine Task Force, and the U.S. Coast Guard, searching the area for about 20 minutes. Searchers found Nicolette on the north side of the sand bar near the lighthouse. Warwick Fire personnel attempted to revive her and transported her to Kent Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
