WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police report two unrelated crashes on Elmwood Avenue Wednesday morning into a house and light pole, respectively, the former resulting in a DUI charge.
At about 6:20 a.m., Warwick officers were called to 1967 Elmwood Ave. for a vehicle that had crashed into a house, police report. A van was reportedly traveling southbound on Elmwood Avenue when it left the road, struck the curb, two separate sections of fencing, an unoccupied parked vehicle, and then crashed into the chimney of a house. There were no injuries to any person inside the house.
The driver, Alexander Gutierrez, 42, of Warwick, was charged with DUI – BAC Unknown, Reckless Driving and Resisting Lawful Arrest. He is currently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries from the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
Second, unrelated Elmwood Ave. Crash
About 30 minutes later, at 6:47 a.m., a sedan struck a light pole at the intersection of Elmwood Ave and Pawtuxet Ave. As a result of the crash, the light pole collapsed onto the hood of this vehicle. The driver was not injured, police report
