Warwick, RI – A Warwick man waits word on formal charges after he crashed head-on into WFD’s Engine 6 Tuesday morning, damaging both vehicles, but causing no injuries.

Warwick Police Lt. Michael Gilbert said the driver of the red Mercury sedan, Dylan Gardner, 20, of 299 Norwood Ave., Warwick, was driving west on Airport Road at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when he crossed the yellow line and crashed into Engine 6 as it was traveling east past Airport Plaza.

Officers arrested Gardner on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol when it appeared he had been drinking. They transported him to RI Hospital for a blood alcohol test, to which Gardner consented. Formal charges against Gardner will be brought following the results of the test, Gilbert said.

The three firefighters in Engine 6 were transported to Kent Hospital for a cautionary check, and they were released with no injuries, according to Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Cooley.

Gardner was also not injured in the crash, Gilbert said.
