Council Update Dec. 16: McAllister Says, ‘See You Later!’

Editor’s note: The Council Update is a twice-monthly update on Council meetings and developments from Warwick City Council President Steve McAllister. The column is written after each council meeting, twice a month. This review of Warwick City Council events has been lightly edited to update time references, for grammar, and to include referential links for further reading.

WARWICK, RI — Last night was my last City Council meeting.  It has been an honor serving as your councilman the past 8 years.

I am proud of all the work we have done together.  I served with 3 different Mayors, and a number of outstanding council members and dedicated city employees who help serve our residents everyday behind the scenes.  Thank you to everyone who has supported me these past four terms.  We accomplished so much together.  Just some of the things I am most proud of include:

  • Cosponsor of three education bonds which have updated and upgraded our existing schools and have made investments for future generations of students to have the same excellence education and experiences I had during my time in the Warwick public school system.
‘I am proud of all the work we have done together.  I served with 3 different Mayors, and a number of outstanding council members and dedicated city employees who help serve our residents everyday behind the scenes.  Thank you to everyone who has supported me these past four terms.’

 

  • New playgrounds in Apponaug and Arnolds Neck.
  • Invited more residents and organizations to participate in council meetings than ever before.
  • Completed hundreds of constituent requests for city services.
  • Helped craft plans for long term infrastructure projects and fleet upgrades for our fire, police and municipal departments.
  • Protected and invested in open space areas across the city.
  • Helped make housing a priority for the city.

But most of all, I was just happy to serve our City and try my best to help out our neighbors with any thoughts, concerns or requests they had for the City of Warwick.

It’s been a great 8 years!  It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later!
