Conimicut Point Swimmer, Auburn Man, Pronounced Dead at Kent Hospital

WARWICK, RI — An Auburn, MA swimmer reported missing at Conimicut Point  Saturday at 3:20 p.m. and recovered an hour later by Warwick Fire Department marine units and the Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force was pronounced dead at 5:02 p.m. at Kent Hospital.

The Warwick Fire Department reports it was called to Conimicut Point for a missing swimmer at about 3:20 p.m. The department’s marine units, dive team, and  the Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force responded and located the swimmer about an hour later, then transferred to shore. He was taken to Kent Hospital, where he was declared dead at 5:02 p.m.

The Warwick Police department, which was also called to the scene at approximately 3:20 p.m., identified the man as Joseph Gillespie, 57, of Auburn, MA.
