PROVIDENCE, RI — Care New England is making staff vaccination mandatory for all units, including its five health institutions in Rhode Island.

Among the facilities affected are Kent Hospital, Butler Hospital, The Care New England Wellness Center, The Providence Center, VNA of Care New England and Women & Infants Hospital.

New COVID-19 cases are increasing across the state, likely due to the highly contagious delta variant, despite Rhode Island’s very high level of vaccination against the virus that causes the illness. It is clear that requiring vaccination is the right move for a trusted healthcare system, CNE noted in its announcement about the new policy.

“It is our responsibility to keep our patients, and our staff, safe. This program will be based on the best evidence that we have to date about preventing transmission of COVID-19, ” said James E. Fanale, President and CEO, Care New England.
