PROVIDENCE — Care New England has named Tom Gregorio, formerly of Tufts Medicine, its new SVP and Chief Information Officer, starting today.

Care New England runs six Rhode Island hospitals and care centers, including Kent Hospital in Warwick. The other centers managed by CNE are Butler HospitalIntegra Community Care, The Providence Center,  VNA of Care New England, and Women & Infants.

Gregorio joins Care New England after leaving Tufts Medicine where he was SVP of IT Operations. While there, he was responsible for system-wide infrastructure and technology operations for all of Tuft’s locations. He represented corporate IT for the 2-billion-dollar health system with 13,000 employees, 2,000 physicians, and 1,116 beds.

At Tufts, he collaborated with Boston and Commonwealth partners to develop strong, collaborative, trusting relationships with constituents and regional partners. He was also responsible for the management and operation of the IT department and its 112-million-dollar budget, managing the Epic and the Cloud Center of Excellence training program while working with the city of Boston to train members of its under-served communities.

Before Tufts, Gregorio worked as Chief Innovation and Technology Officer at University Hospital where he was responsible for the 25-million-dollar technology department. There, he managed the support of a $600 million-dollar academic medical center with more than 3,500 employees along with a large complement of residents and medical students to support. He worked through the digital integration of appointments, telehealth, and other virtual health initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and improve care.

Before that, he was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) a wholly owned subsidiary of the State’s engineering school NJIT where he built a 26 million-dollar-a-year organization helping over 1000 practices in NJ and Puerto Rico transform their practices to value-based care as a CMS contract awardee. The 5-year program helped CMS save 200 million dollars over the time of the agreement. While there he also connected all 60 hospitals in the state creating the NJ State Health Information Network which shares all admissions, discharges, and transfers statewide across all the hospitals which is still up and operational today.

Tom, who is of proud Cuban descent and fluent in Spanish, will be moving to Rhode Island with his wife Theresa. They have twin sons who are both Seniors in college.
