The 10th Annual Cause for Paws Classic Car Show Sunday was a hot time literally and figuratively, with 90-degree weather, 132 classic cars and proceeds benefitting the Warwick Animal Shelter at 171 Service Ave., Warwick.

The show is put on each year by the Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter.

A crowd gathered shortly before 2 p.m. to hear the MC, Cruisin’ Bruce, announce the winners.  More than 50 awards were presented including Best Club Participation, People Choice, Best of Show, and the prestigious Moe Award.
The Moe Award is named after Moe, long-time mascot of the Warwick Animal Shelter.  When the dog was brought into the shelter, everyone fell in love with him, and they decided not to put him up for adoption, Bruce said. The award is given to a car that Moe would most like to take a ride in, and then pee on the tires.
Rene Charette of Coventry’s 1930 Model A won the Moe Award.  This was his first show and he was very excited to win that trophy, he said.  Charette noted he loves dogs and would love to have brought his along for the day but he knew it would have been too hot for her.
If you’re looking for a new furry family member, the Warwick Animal Shelter is located at 101 Arthur W Devine Blvd. and they’re open MondayWednesday and Friday from 12-4 p.m. and SaturdaySunday 11-3 p.m..
