Warwick, RI – The lot at 203 Bald Hill Road, once home to a series of ill-fated retailers including Building 19, Syms discount clothing, Zayre’s Department Store and Child World, will soon sport a CarMax used auto dealership.
The old Building 19 store, which is still visible on Google Maps, has already been demolished, and significant earthwork is taking place at the site.
According to plans at the Cranston Planning Department, the construction will result in Carmax Auto Super Store #7276.
The land, 8.3 acres, 5.17 in Cranston and 3.3 in Warwick, is owned by TRI Cranston LLC, with a mailing address at 518 17th St., 17th floor, Denver CO, 80202. The Cranston portion of the land will have the dealership built on it, while the Warwick parcel will serve as parking. A 936 sq. ft. car wash for use only by CarMax will also be built on the site.
The site will have 200 parking spaces for employees and customers, and 413 parking spaces for vehicle storage.
CarMax was founded in Richmond, VA in 1993, according to their website. The company sells pre-inspected used cars at more than 100 sites across the US. Customers can browse cars and schedule test drives on the company’s website, but purchasing the cars takes place in person.
