WARWICK, R.I. — Warwick Police were called to the area of Cowesett Avenue Dec. 5 at 9:30 p.m. for a report of a Subaru Outback having driven over a man’s lawn, found it parked partially on the curb near 190 Cowesett Green Drive, and arrested the driver on a DUI charge.

When Officer Eric Lima found the Outback, the green car’s front driver’s side tire was just slightly on top of the curb, nearly touching the lawn of a nearby house, according to the officer’s report. Inside the driver’s seat, he found the driver, identified as Philip Malouin, 67, of 4 Arrow Ct., West Warwick, RI.

Malouin appeared extremely disoriented, and his speech was slurred, and his eyes were bloodshot, Lima reported. The officer asked him to step from the car, and he did, leaning on the vehicle for support.

During a series of sobriety tests starting with a vision test, Malouin fell backward into his car and slid off of it, requiring help to stand again, and no further tests were performed out of fear for the man’s safety, according to the report. Lima arrested Malouin on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and transported him to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive.

At police headquarters,Malouin registered a .246 and a .244 on a breath alcohol test. Lima charged him with DUI, first offense, .15 or greater blood alcohol, with a Third District Court date of Jan. 3. Malouin was also charged with failing to maintain control of his vehicle and for driving with no insurance.
