Capitol Policeman Charged in Kent County Court Assault

WARWICK, RI — Rhode Island State Police have charged Capitol Policeman David Sweeting, 67 Alfred Drowne Road, Barrington, for a Kent County Court assault Aug. 9.

State Police filed the charge Aug. 16 after receiving a complaint Aug. 10 that Sweeting assaulted a contractor at the Noel Judicial Complex in Warwick the previous day.

Sweeting, a Sergeant with the Capitol Police, was placed on administrative leave when the complaint about the Kent County Court assault was received. Sweeting turned himself in at the RI State Police Wickford Barracks, was arraigned and released on personal recognizance.

Sweeting is scheduled to appear in 3rd Division District Court on Aug. 25.
