Friday, April 1, is United Way of RI’s  day of giving  to support local charities, and the Boys & Girls Club of Warwick, BGCW ,  is among charities hoping you’ll  help.

One of those nonprofit organizations is the Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick, whose leadership hopes for a little more generosity from the public this year to keep up with costs.

“We have participated every year in this relatively new venture. I believe this is the third time. We were so happy to receive $3,800 last year and are hoping to raise more this year to cover increasing costs. For example, it now costs us $100 to fill a tank of gas in one of our mini buses, which we use to transport kids from our club to school in the morning, and then from school to our club after school, as well as for enriching and fun field trips,” said Eleanor Acton, development director at Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick.

A state-wide campaign to support local nonprofits, 401Gives offers everyone a chance to make a positive difference in the community. “We hope people will take this opportunity to perform an easy yet important act of kindness by visiting the web site 401Gives and donating to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick,” Acton said.

Donate to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick “Every gift will help uplift the lives of our children – and all of our futures,” Acton said.

The inaugural 401Gives, on April 1, 2020 brought in $1.3 million to 366 nonprofits across Rhode Island and in 2021 brought in almost $2.3M to 422 nonprofits.

A few others hoping for a generous gift this year include:

  • RI Coalition for the Homeless The 325 families and 730 individuals experiencing homelessness on any given night are now facing new challenges to their most basic daily routines because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Family Service of Rhode Island FSRI’s goal is to provide 500 at-risk babies with any necessary resources they need to grow and thrive by raising money for their early childhood programs. Donations will help our most vulnerable Rhode Islanders get the head start they need to reach their full potential.
  • Providence Animal Rescue League Many of PARL’s programs and services have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, we saw an impactful growth in demand for our essential community support programs. Our free Pet Food Pantry program saw a 489% increase in demand and we served over 100,000 meals to pets in need within our community. This program helps pets stay with their families and insures that those who are facing financial hardship do not have to part with their beloved companion animal, even in the face of adversity.
