WARWICK, RI — Teachers gathered at Warwick Center for the Arts (WCFA), 3259 Post Road Saturday, sharing the stories behind their art at the Rhode Island Art Educators Exhibit opening reception.

Among those telling artistic tales were the members of The Sketchbook Society, a group of art educators who began gathering monthly to support their mutual passion for the visual arts in June 2022.

The Sketchbook Society meets monthly to sketch together, share ideas & inspire one another.

Sketchbook Society member Kim Gallman said her painting, showing two Afghan dogs on the beach with the Conimicut Point Lighthouse in the background, was inspired by a day on the beach at Conimicut Point when she was six, watching the two dogs romp on the beach.

Another educator, Santrupy Das, showed her folding Art and Design education lexicon. “Like flowers contain the potential of growing into fruits, trees, forests and subsequently almost all of the living world, letters of the alphabet hold within them all the words, sentences, and a majority of all expressions – verbal and written.” Das  writes to introduce her folding  and unfolding art book, which graphically presents words associated with the art world.
