WFD Responds to Fred’s Autohaus Fire, Gas Leak at Dave’s on West Shore Road

Warwick, RI – Warwick Firefighters responded to a fire at a West Shore Road auto repair shop at 7:52 a.m. on Feb. 22, putting it out within about an hour, and also responded to a gas leak at Dave’s Marketplace this morning.

Fred’s Autohaus, at 2157 West Shore Road, showed fire damage to the east side of the building, where the windows had been knocked out. The front of the building also showed fire damage, and the three bay doors were open to the elements.

A pair of WPD cruisers were parked in front of the business at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning, with an unmarked cruiser at the corner of the lot.

Warwick Fire Marshal Michael Matteson said officials were still trying to reach the owner of the business at that time. Matteson was unable to provide further details on the fire, which remained under investigation. The fire was all but extinguished, with only some minor smoke rising from it as snow fell across the city.

Further down the road at about 10: 12 a.m., firefighters responded to a call for a gas leak at Dave’s Marketplace, 2687 West Shore Road, according to @RIStatewide’s Twitter feed. 

Two fire engines responded to the scene, and the building was evacuated, while National Grid was called to handle the leak.

The leak was outside the building, according to .  At about 10:30 a.m., the engines had left the lot, and a National Grid van remained on the scene.
