WARWICK, RI  —  Warwick Police arrested a Johnston woman Feb. 27 for keeping a 2020 Toyota Celica she rented from Hertz on Senator Street in 2020 but failed to return on April 22 that year, owing $3,994.15 to the company by September.

The company filed a report Sept. 16, 2020 about woman’s failure to return the car and her outstanding debt, incurred when her credit card was declined. At the time, Warwick Police issued a warrant to arrest the woman, Jessica Simarra, 38, of 13 S. Fairview St., Johnston, RI, for obtaining vehicles with intent to defraud, according to Warwick Police records.

On Feb. 27, Warwick officers spotted a 2004 Honda Civic with a bent temporary license plate that wasn’t visible on Jefferson Boulevard near Lincoln Avenue and stopped the car, and identified Simarra as the driver. The plates, which were from Oklahoma, had expired in August 2020, according to officer Tyler Luiz’s report.

The officers arrested Simarra on the warrant, and transported her to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, Warwick, where she was processed and later released with a Third District Court summons for June 22, 2021 to answer the charges. She was also cited for failing to properly display her license plates.
