WARWICK, RI — A West Warwick woman turned herself in on a Walmart thief larceny warrant July 17, issued after she took $2,000 cash left by the man ahead of her at a Walmart register Feb. 2.
Victoria Rohrig, 41, of 754 Park Ave., Apt. 2, Cranston, RI, was charged with felony larceny between $1,500 and $5,000. She was arraigned on the charge in Third Division District Court that day and released on $5,000 personal recognizance and issued a no trespass order for Walmart. She was scheduled for an Oct. 28 court screening.
Walmart Thief Recorded On Camera
According to police records, the theft was discovered by the man after he took an envelope with $2,000 in cash, in $20 bills, out of a pocket while paying for his merchandise at Walmart Feb. 2. He finished and left the store, leaving the envelope of cash behind. He realized he’d left the cash in the store, but it was missing when he got back.
The man spoke with WalMart security, who in turn called in Warwick Police Officer Brian Araujo. Araujo met with the store’s loss prevention staff, who were able to find a video recording of the Walmart thief. The video showed a woman behind the man take the envelope of cash after he moved out of the store.
Walmart staff told Arujo that they had already identified the woman as Rohrig, since they had spoken to her earlier that day on an unrelated matter. Araujo attempted to call Rohrig but was unable to reach her. He later submitted a warrant for her arrest on the larceny charge.
