WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police arrested one of six thieves in a botched Audi theft caper Aug. 28, 4:48 a.m., after they tried to drive three of the cars off the locked-down Inskip Auto Mall lot on Bald Hill Road, crashing two.
Multiple WPD officers were called to the 1515 Bald Hill Road dealership after security guards for the business reported six-seven men in three of the dealership’s Audi Infinity cars, Infinity Q50s, one valued at $15,000 and the other two at $43,000, eluding security guards inside the lot. In the process, two of the cars crashed, according to the report of Officer Nathan Skawinski. According to the report, the drivers attempted to drive the cars through the lot’s locked gates.
Security guards reported six men, wearing ski masks and hooded sweatshirts, exited the cars and fled on foot toward Market Basket at 25 Pace Boulevard. Officers checked the area for the men, but were unable to locate them, according to the report.
Skawinski drove his cruiser down the Guavin Drive cul-de-sac behind Inskip, spotting a man walking north in front of 510 Gauvin Drive, located directly behind Inskip, according to his report.
The man wore black sweatpants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and black shoes, Skawinski noted. After noticing Skawinski, the man turned abruptly and walked up the driveway of the home. Skawinski called to him and told him to approach his cruiser. After briefly moving behind a car to hide, the man approached Skawinski, who checked him for weapons, finding none, according to the report.
Skawinski saw the man was wearing a black gardening-style glove on his right hand, and noticed a black ski mask hanging from his pocket.
When asked why he was wearing only black, the man replied, “I can’t wear black?” When asked to identify himself, he told Skawinski he didn’t want to talk, and asked for a lawyer. Skawinski replied by reading him his rights, and detaining him as a suspect in the Audi theft caper.

Skawinski charged Hildalgo with three counts of attempted larceny greater than $10,000 and one count of obstruction of an officer. He was arraigned that day in Third Division District Court, scheduled for a Dec. 2 court screening on the charges and released on a $5,000 surety bond.
