WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police called to Macy’s at Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road Jan. 24 at 2:11 p.m. for a shoplifting report found the suspect wearing the checkered jacket he’d stolen, making his getaway on a RIPTA bus headed toward Cranston.

Officer Rahja O Laster met with Macy’s asset protection employee, said a man wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt and a backpack had taken off the backpack then put on a checkered $125 Tommy Hilfiger coat, and left the store without paying for it.

The man then crossed Greenwich Avenue and got on RIPTA bus 1022 heading toward Cranston, according to the officer’s report.

Officer Brian Holleran caught up with the bus on Oaklawn Avenue at Ralls Drive, pulled it over, and found the man, identified as Eric S. Lemire, 31, of 117 Silver Spring St., Apt. 2F, Providence, RI. The asset protection employee was transported to the bus, and identified Lemire.

The officers arrested Lemire and transported him to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, Warwick, RI, where he was charged with felony shoplifting. Lemire also had an outstanding arrest warrant from the RI State Police.
