WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police were called to a fatal car crash and fire at the intersection of Post Rd at Airport Road about 12:51 a.m. Monday, determining speed was a likely factor.

The Warwick fire department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, which had fully engulfed the car, finding one occupant, dead, in the driver’s seat, according to Warwick Police.

The Warwick Police Accident Reconstruction Team also responded and learned the vehicle had been traveling westbound on Airport Rd at what appeared to be high speed, according to a witness. The witness observe the driver cross the Post Road intersection and head directly into the traffic signal pole where the vehicle came to rest before catching fire.

The Accident Reconstruction Team is still actively investigating the fatal crash and is withholding the operator’s name pending positive identification and notification to the next-of-kin.
