WARWICK, RI — RI State Police arrested a Providence man on a Warwick Police larceny warrant for a September porch pirate I-phone package theft, delivering him to Warwick Police headquarters Jan. 6.
Officer David Babcock spoke with the woman reporting the package theft at 12:13 p.m. in the Warwick Police Headquarters lobby at 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, Warwick. The woman told Babcock she had ordered an I-Phone 16 Pro Max, valued at $1,600, through AT&T. The phone was delivered to her door by FedEx Sept. 24 at 1:15 p.m., she said, according to the officer’s report.
The woman showed the officer Ring doorbell footage of a man in a hat and black jacket with the hood up, blue jeans and sandals, taking the package then running south through the yard before getting into a vehicle, which could not be identified from the footage.
Porch Pirate ID’d, warrant issued
Babcock identified the thief as Jayzon Snead, 19, 66 Huber Ave. Apt. 3, Providence, as the same person identified in a previous larceny Sept. 23, during which he wore the same outfit. Babcock filed a warrant for larceny for Snead based on the two recorded thefts, and as a suspect in several similar thefts, according to the report.
According to police records, Snead’s Sept. 23 theft was reported by the homeowner’s pool cleaner, who spotted him take a package, also containing an I-phone, from the man’s front steps at about 11:50 a.m., walking away. Babcock met with the homeowner who had been driving around looking for Snead, and continued to search for him, but did not spot the suspect. He later identified Snead using the homeowner’s Ring video, from Cranston Police Department booking photos.
Snead appeared in Third District Court Jan. 13 on the charge and is scheduled for a pre-arraignment hearing May 7.
