WARWICK, RI — Officer Britton Kelly took a call from a Warwick woman March 31 reporting that a $2,400 gold and diamond ring she’d mailed to a Jeweler in New York City for repair had not made the trip.

The woman told Kelly the ring, white gold with 25 diamonds, had one diamond missing, so she had mailed it for repair to Effy Jewelry, 7W 45th St, FL 10, New York, NY, according to Kelly’s report. She said she had pre-packaged it herself before mailing it from an East Greenwich Post Office, and that it had no external markings indicating that jewelry was inside.

However, about four days later, the package arrived at Effy Jewelry, opened, with no ring inside. The woman said the ring could have been stolen anywhere between East Greenwich and New York City, according to the report.

The woman said she had already filed a report on the theft with the U.S. Postal Service. Her insurance company asked her to also file a report with the Warwick Police Department so they could process her claim.
