Warwick, RI – Officer Randy Francis was driving on Bald Hill Road Jan. 19 at 1:42 a.m. when he spotted a gray 2007 Toyota Corolla traveling 41 mph in a 35 mph zone, swerving near Toll Gate Road.
Francis pulled the car over, speaking with the driver, Patrick Aldridge, 27, of 87 North St., Warwick, who had bloodshot eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath, according to Francis’ report.
Aldridge told Francis he was returning from Wendy’s after having spent about 45 minutes at McKinley’s in East Greenwich.
When asked for his registration, Aldridge first produced a receipt from Jiffy Lube, and seemed to be having difficulty sorting through his paperwork, according to the officer’s report.
Francis asked Aldridge to perform a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed. Aldridge demonstrated a lack of smooth pursuit in his vision, walked off the line and broke heel-toe contact during the Walk and Turn, and exhibited a lack of balance during the One Leg Stand.
Francis arrested Aldridge, transporting him to Warwick Police Headquarters, where he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.
Francis charged Aldridge with driving under the influence of alcohol, blood alcohol unknown, and issued him citations for not having evidence of insurance, laned roadway violations, then released him to sober adult.
