WARWICK, RI — Warwick Officers arrested a 24-year-old Coventry woman at 5:58 p.m. July 11, after employees at the Haxton’s Liquor Store at 1123 Bald Hill Road recorded her on video stealing a 750 ml bottle of Hennessey cognac worth $36.49.

Officer Walter Larson and three other officers responded to the store, where the manager had apprehended the woman, later identified as Jacqueline Haynes, 24, of 2175 Plainfield Pike, Coventry, the officer reported.

The manager of the store, Kevin Haxton, 57, told Larson he had video recorded Haynes enter the store at 4:09 p.m., select a bottle of Hennessey and put it in her purse before leaving the store without paying for it. The manager called police to report the theft, and Haynes returned shortly after, put a 1 liter bottle of Hennessey in her purse and bought a can of Four Locos without paying for the cognac, then left the store, according to Larson’s report.

Haxton confronted and detained the woman after her second trip out of the store. Haynes admitted to stealing both bottles.

Larson arrested her and transported her to Warwick Police Headquarters, where she was charged with two counts of shoplifting.
