WARWICK, RI — Warwick Firefighters responded to a stubborn car fire on the west lane of the East Avenue Bridge Tuesday at about noon.

The fire appeared quelled several times, but resurged moments after firefighters from WFD‘s Tower Ladder 1 engine stopped directing water at it at about 12:20 p.m. The car was a compact four-door vehicle, light colored. WFD’s heavy rescue also responded to the scene.

Acrid black smoke from the fire was visible from the Bald Hill Road intersection near the malls. The odor was detectable as far east as Greenwood Center. Traffic was blocked in that lane by Warwick Police as the firefighters worked to put out the car fire.

This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
