Warwick, RI – A head-on crash between a silver sedan and a red pickup at 291 West Shore Road seriously injured a three-year-old and mother in the car and caused minor injuries to the man driving the truck Friday at 4:30 p.m.

According to Warwick Police Captain Joe Coffey, the woman and child in the sedan had to be removed from the sedan with the Jaws of Life. The fire department arrived at the scene and immediately went to work extricating the victims from both vehicles, according to a report from breaking news photographer Chris Palmer.

The 3-year-old was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence and the mother was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. As of 9:44 p.m. Friday there were no updates on their injuries.

The driver of the truck, a man, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.

Coffey said a third car went off the road and hit a tree as it swerved to avoid hitting the other two vehicles.
