WARWICK, RI — It’s a  February roundup of Warwick Weekend events including Roadhouse: The Musical, the return of the Pilgrim Cheer competition, WCFA’s latest artists show and public skating.

Warwick Weekend weather will be a mostly sunny experience with temperatures in the mid-30s and a chance of light snow – less than half an inch – Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Here are some events and happenings you can enjoy along the way.

Black History Month reading: February is Black History Month, during which the Warwick Public Library is spotlighting several titles in their collection.

‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’, Gamm Theatre through Feb. 25 Due to popular demand, ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ now runs through Feb. 25 at 1245 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick, R.I. Tickets: $20-$75

Edward Albee’s masterful 3-act play is an explosively comedic and harrowing masterpiece. On the heels of a university faculty party, middle-aged professor George and his wife, Martha, invite campus newcomers Nick and Honey over for drinks. What starts as harmless patter escalates to a full night of vicious, booze-fueled barbs, as the unwitting young couple is drawn into their hosts’ all-out marital warfare.

Warwick Weekend Friday:

Norwood branch Library Building Club: Join other kids to create with Legos and Manga-tiles every Friday afternoon at the Norwood Branch.

Thayer Arena Public Skate: Through March, Friday and Sunday, Public Skate is open to skaters of all ages. Cost to Skate is $5 – Children 5 and under are free. Skate Rentals are available at Sandy Lane Sports across the street from the rink.

  • Fridays 3:15-5:15 p.m.
  • Sundays 12:50 – 2:30 p.m.

No Skate Dates: Fridays: 2/9 & 3/22 Sundays: 3/10

Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied and supervised by a guardian who is 18 years or older. Children ages 13-17 without an adult staying onsite must be paid for and signed in by an adult that can leave emergency contact information. Only persons wearing skates are permitted on the ice surface. Helmets are strongly recommended for all skaters.

Warwick Weekend Saturday:

Roadhouse Musical at Proclamation Ale Proclamation Brewing, 298 Kilvert St, Warwick, RI, in cooperation with Wilbury Theater Group in Providence, presents Roadhouse: The Musical Feb. 17. The musical is a re-imagining of the 1989 Patrick Swayze ‘classic’ film. Whether you are a hardcore fan of the film or simply a fan of camp and a good old tongue-in-cheek evening of fun and music, you’re sure to enjoy this show. Broadway World describes it as “If Mystery Science Theatre and Rocky Horror Picture Show had a baby who grew up to be a redneck,  Roadhouse: The Musical would be that child.” Event is 21+.

Pilgrim Cheer Competition returns  Pilgrim Cheer hosts their first cheerleading competition in a few years at the high school, 111 Pilgrim Pkwy, Warwick, RI, at noon Saturday, reports Mackenzie Lincoln, a member of the squad. The competitions have been skipped the last few years due to a combination of funding and pandemic restrictions, she said.

“This weekend as some may or may not know Pilgrim Cheer is hosting the first competition in a while here at the high school. With that we have a lot of concessions to buy as around 20 schools are attending! If anyone would like to donate any food items like boxes of chips, water, soda, or anything of that sort, that would be amazing! Thank you!,” wrote Lincoln.

Entrance Fees:
  • $7-adults
  • $5- senior citizens and students
  • kids under 5 attend free
