Warwick Weekend Events: Trivia, Improv, Drama, Collage

WARWICK, RI — This week’s Warwick Weekend events offer trivia night BBQ, Imrpov comedy, one-woman drama, a plant walk and some collaging company wrapping things up Sunday.

Speaking of wrapping up, you’ll be wrapping yourself, as the Warwick Weekend events weather forecast remains chill with a blustery sunny afternoon high in the low 30s today, followed by a clearing sunny day Saturday with a high of 39 degrees before dipping to 35 with a chance of snow Saturday, then back into the high 30s with sun on Sunday, as told by the National Weather Service.

Here are some events and happenings to help you decide where you’re spending this Warwick weekend: 

Warwick Weekend Events Thursday:

Proclamation Ale Trivia Night & BBQ: Tonight starting at 6:45 p.m., visit the Proclamation Ale Taproom for McCaughey Standard Trivia, which is anything BUT your typical trivia – An array of original questions that makes your brain tick AND gets your team to squirm. Test your knowledge with host Josh “VG” Kaufman. First round starts at 6:45pm. Winner receives a $50 gift card. Hungry know-it-alls can get their fill with food vendor South County BBQ.

Gamm’s Girls & Boys 7 p.m.: Gamm Theatre, 1245 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick, presents Dennis Kelly’s “Girls & Boys,”a powerful and unflinching exploration of love and the dark truths that lie beneath. Told with biting humor and raw emotion, this one-woman show grips audiences from start to finish. Warwick Post’s Joe Siegel says in his review, “We hear about a family being torn apart. We discover how this impacts the woman and the way she relates to others,” and “If you’re in the mood for a powerful drama, see it.”

Gamm’s Girls & Boys 7 p.m.: Gamm Theatre, 1245 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick, presents Dennis Kelly’s “Girls & Boys,”a powerful and unflinching exploration of love and the dark truths that lie beneath. Told with biting humor and raw emotion, this one-woman show grips audiences from start to finish. Warwick Post’s Joe Siegel says in his review, “We hear about a family being torn apart. We discover how this impacts the woman and the way she relates to others,” and “If you’re in the mood for a powerful drama, see it.”

Bring Your Own Improve, WCFA Bring Your Own Improv is back for family friendly live performances every Friday at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tickets are $11.63. If you’re looking for something fun to do late on a Friday night in Warwick, they’ve got you covered. Their Caffeinated Insomniacs Comedy show – designed for teens and adults – is the place to be at 10 p.m. Their show welcomes voluntary audience participation. You can participate in one of three ways: applaud for a scene you like, yell out fantastic suggestions, or if you feel you’re ready, jump up and get involved

Warwick Weekend Events Saturday:

Outdoor Plant Walk, Roger Williams Park The “Outdoor Adventures Plant Walks in Roger Williams Park,” presented by Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, Roger Williams Park, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence, RI, is held Saturdays Jan. 11, Feb. 8 and March 8. Join us for a walk around Roger Williams Park as we learn how to identify plants when flowers and leaves are not present. Binoculars are not required, but encouraged for animal sightings. Please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk about a mile. Walks meet at the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium.

Program fee per session: $3 per person/free for museum members. Pets and strollers are not permitted. Pre-registration required. 

Warwick Weekend Events Sunday: 

Collage & Company Sunday, Jan. 12, 1-3 p.m.: Cut, paste, and stick together at the Open studio, Warwick Center for the Arts, 3259 Post Road, Warwick (Open Studios are free to WCFA Members, or $10 to Non-members)  Explore the art of collage in this drop-in studio session organized for both beginners and seasoned collage enthusiasts. Bring your materials, start a new project or continue working on something in progress. This is an open studio without formal instruction; however, everyone is encouraged to share work, techniques, tips, questions and answers. Come and create, experiment, or simply enjoy a coffee with fellow artists. If there is sufficient interest, this may become a monthly event.
