Warwick Weekend Events: Art Reception, Crafts, Foodie Friday

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Weekend events this week have the usual summer food attractions Friday, with WCFA’s exhibit reception, a craft show and a lucky break in rain Saturday night for the Perseids Meteor Shower.

The weather for this week’s Warwick Weekend events promises sunny skies, with high temps in the  80s, according to the National Weather Service.

Warwick Weekend Events Thursday:

Fire barn craft show  Tonight, 6-9 p.m., is Summer Craft show – Stop by the Fire Barn Oakland beach, 645 Oakland Beach Ave., we have a lot of great vendors.  Cash Bar only. 

WCFA Opening Reception: Comics, Cartoons & Illustrated Stories Join us for the opening reception of “Comics, Cartoons, & Illustrated Stories”, tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. at the WCFA gallery, 3259 Post Rd, Warwick, RI 02886,

The  gallery  is open from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.  Admission is free.

Warwick Weekend Events Friday:

Goddard Park Farmer’s Market Every Friday through Columbus Day Weekend, RI Grown, DEM’s farmer’s market program, hosts farmer’s market at Goddard Park selling delicious and freshly-harvested local foods direct from the farm to your dinner table.

Roger Williams Food Truck Fridays The Carousel campus at Roger Wiliams Park Zoo has a lot of open space and rolling hills shaded by trees, the perfect spot to grab dinner from a food truck and listen to music and entertainment during the park’s Food Truck Fridays event. The outdoor food truck festival at Carousel Village starts at 5 pm. Attendance is free, just pay for what you eat and drink from an ever changing rotation of more than 15 food trucks each week.

If you miss this one, don’t worry. They’re going on every Friday till the fall.

Norwood branch Library Building Club: Join other kids to create with Legos and Manga-tiles every Friday afternoon at the Norwood Branch.

WCFA ‘Comics, Cartoons & Illustrated Stories’ Exhibit WCFA’s exhibit, just opened this week, ‘Comics, Cartoons & Illustrated Stories,’ features a unique collection of stylistic approaches–from realism to non-representational abstraction. See how all of these works come together in WCFA’s newest exhibition, on view until Aug. 17.

 The gallery,  3259 Post Rd, Warwick, RI 02886, is open from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. There is no charge for admission.

WCFA Call for Art WCFA is seeking original works for our upcoming Rhode Island Art Educator’s Showcase, an exhibition featuring artwork from those individuals who teach art to others. Art teachers have the unique gift of merging the intricacies of mathematics, the lyricism of language, and the legacies of history in the form of visual communication. This show is intended to celebrate these educators. This show is open to all art educators in RI, including PreK-12, college/university, and adult art education. Deadline: Aug. 5.

Perseids Meteor Shower Peaks  Tonight, the National Weather Service reports, the rain stops and skies clear, just in time for a view of the peak Perseids Meteor Shower, the year’s premier showcase of meteors viewable after dark, far from city lights.

The Perseid Meteor Showers peak in the night sky tonight into early morning Sunday, with hundreds of meteors, or shooting stars, visible.

  • The best viewing time is usually just after midnight, and lasts till about 4 a.m. 
  • Get as far away from city and town lights as possible.
  • Bring a blanket and something to prop your head up as you watch for meteors.

Conimicut Village Farmers Market This Saturday, 9am-12 p.m., the Conimicut Village Farmer’s Market continues. The Conimicut Village Farmers Market at 955 West Shore Road. The market runs every Saturday until Sept. 28.
