Warwick Man Arrested in Fatal Crash Sunday

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police have arrested and charged  a Warwick man with DUI and driving to endanger in a single-car crash that killed his passenger and sent the others to the hospital Oct.25, 3:49 a.m. near 5880 Post Road.

WPD officers met North Kingstown officers, who originally received the call for the crash. Initial investigation showed a 2003 Buick Park Avenue, operated by a 19 year old from Warwick, was going south on Post Road when it struck the abutment for the bridge carrying Post Road over Hunt River.

Four people inside the vehicle were transported to local hospitals. One passenger in the vehicle, Michaela Lynch, 19, of 181 Nanci Karen Drive, Warwick, was pronounced dead at Kent County Memorial Hospital and the operator and two other passengers were treated at Rhode Island Hospital for serious injuries.

The two other male passengers are a 21-year-old who was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital and a 19-year- old who is still at Rhode Island Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

The Warwick Police Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and have begun an investigation into the crash. As a result of this preliminary investigation, both speed and alcohol an/or drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash.

The driver, Jacob M. Pelliccio, 19, of Medford St.,Warwick, was held on charges of Driving to Endanger, Resulting in Death, two counts of Driving to Endanger, Personal Injury, DUI 1st offense B.A.C. unknown, and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test 1st offense. He appeared before a bail commissioner (Justice of the Peace) Sunday at the Warwick Police Department Headquarters for arraignment on those charges.

Pelliccio was released on $10,000 surety bail. He is due back at Third District Court on Oct. 27, at 10:30 a.m..
