Virtual Relay for Life Cancer Fundraiser Live Today

WARWICK, RI — The Virtual Relay for Life of Central Rhode Island’s annual fundraiser to aid cancer research and caregiver support goes virtual at noon with a day-long schedule of online activities in hopes of winning donations from an appreciative public.

The virtual Relay for Life begins as more than a decade’s worth of in-person events have, with an opening ceremony, this one featuring a video introduction from the Central Relay for Life’s organizing team members.

Local pop rock-country singer Megan Harney will perform “Fight Song” popularized by Rachel Platten, followed by a fitness kickboxing demonstration by Celluci’s Martial Arts, “Darkside” performed by Harney again, then “Wish You Were Here” performed by On The Hop. The event will end with luminaria ceremony, featuring a roll call and photos of people lost to cancer and those who have survived the disease.

Funding raised from donations during the event stands to aid doctors and researchers in their continuing efforts to research treatments for cancer. Research intogene therapy for breast cancer and immunotherapy cancer treatments.

The fundraising also goes to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodges, where people who live far away from treatment can stay for free with a caregiver.  Examples of other services include the Road to Recovery and Look Good Feel Better.  ACS services and support can be found here or by calling 800-227-2345 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
