WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police arrested two men for a Feb. 18 robbery of a man selling computer graphics cards via Facebook Marketplace while meeting with him outside CVS, 2790 Post Road, taking $120 in cash and a $180 graphic card.

On Feb. 18, Det. Ryan McCarry met with the victim, who told them he had met with the two men, Danny Reyes and Jesus Marmol, at the CVS, intending to sell a MSI 2070 GPU computer graphics card for $180 to Reyes, who had contacted him through the Facebook Marketplace. When he arrived Reyes was accompanied by Marmol, whom he had sold a graphics card to the previous day for $120, noting it was not tested and was being sold in “as-is” condition, according to McCarry’s report

The victim handed Reyes the MSI 2070 GPU  to make a pre-sale inspection, but Reyes then placed the item in the rear of his white Toyota Prius with Fla. plates,  but did not pay him. Instead, Reyes demanded $120 in cash since the MSI 2060 GPU he sold to Marmol didn’t work. The victim refused to refund Marmol, explaining that he was unsure if the item  worked when he sold it to Marmol and had sold it in “as is” condition at a discounted price, according to the report.

He told Reyes that was clearly communicated to Marmol and they had both agreed to that as a condition of the sale.  Reyes then approached him in an aggressive manner and jabbed him in the chest with his finger while stated that if Buchanan did not give Marmol $120, Reyes was going to fuck him up. Reyes reportedly went on to state that he would “beat Buchanan’s white ass up,’ adding that he was a gangster and could easily find out where Buchanan lived because he knows people everywhere. As Reyes was threatening him, Marmol was standing next to Reyes nodding his head, but not saying anything, according to the victim’s account.

The victim, fearing for his safety, told Reyes and Marmol he had to use the ATM inside of CVS to retrieve the money, and entered CVS alone, as Reyes and Marmol waited by their vehicle. While he had more than $120 in his pocket, he was afraid that Reyes and Marmol would attacked him and taken all of his money. The man returned to the parking lot and handed Marmol $120 in cash.  He asked for both of the GPU units back, but Reyes refused to return them, stating that Buchanan had wasted his time.

Marmol told Reyes to return the two GPU units, but Reyes only returned the MSI 2060 GPU and kept the operable MSI 2070 GPU.

Warrant issued for robbery suspects after failed attempts to interview them

McCarry used the the Flock traffic camera database to search for the Prius the Reyes and Marmol were using, finding it was most recently captured traveling west on Centerville Road at Orchard Avenue in Warwick, RI at  1:29 p.m. The intersection of Centerville Road and Orchard Avenue is approximately 1.5 miles from the CVS. He saved the Flock results were saved to a disc.

A camera at Agiliti Health, 2800 Post Road, placed the vehicle in the lot at the time of the reported robbery. The footage shows three subjects standing by that vehicle, but the camera did not appear to have captured the entirety of the incident, and was not clear enough to identify the people recorded, according to the report.

McCarry spoke with Marmol on the phone May 31, and the suspect admitted to being present during the incident, but said the exchange between the three was a misunderstanding. He said he would call back to schedule an interview. McCarry attempted to reach him again on June 4, but Marmol did not return the call. He also attempted to reach Reyes by phone but he also did not return McCarry’s call. The detective drafted arrest warrants for both men.

Officer Alejandro J Martinez arrested Marmol on Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. Reyes turned himself in on the warrant at Warwick Police Headquarters on Nov. 21.
