Warwick man arrested for using same collateral for two loansÂ
Editor’s note: The following report has been edited to remove the identification of the man arrested following the dropping of charges and expungement of court and police records in this matter. Basic, non-identifying details of the arrest and investigation have been left intact.Â
On Aug. 21, troopers arrested a Warwick man, charging him with Obtaining Money Under False Pretenses over $1,500.
The State Police Financial Crimes Unit investigated the case after receiving a complaint about a potentially fraudulent personal loan agreement.
The investigation culminated with an arrest warrant alleging that on Oct. 26, 2012, the man entered into a loan agreement with a personal lender for the amount of $200,000. As collateral for the loan, the man pledged his shares and interests in a construction project which he was affiliated with.
State Police alleged the man defaulted on the loan, and the lender learned the shares and interests in the construction project had been pledged on a separate loan agreement in June of 2009.
The man was arraigned Aug. 21 in Third Division District Court before the Honorable Judge Robert K. Pirraglia and released on $10,000 personal recognizance. He was scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference in Third Division District Court on Oct. 23, 2014. The case against him was later dropped, and both court and police records in this case have since been expunged.
