PROVIDENCE, RI — At 2:38 a.m. Monday, Rhode Island State Police responded to a tractor-trailer Rte. 95 rollover  on Route 95 North in Providence, citing the driver.

The initial investigation revealed that the operator of the tractor-trailer, a 65-year-old man from Cumberland, who was not injured, was traveling north when he struck the barrier separating Rte. 95 from the access road to Smithfield Avenue, according to State Police.

The tractor-trailer, registered to AGP Construction in Johnston, RI, was carrying 18 compacted and crushed cars for scrap metal when it rolled over. The 18 cars, weighing between 2,000 to 3,000 lbs each, spilled onto both Rte. 95 North and the access road for Smithfield Avenue, State Police report.

Members of the Rhode Island State Police Commercial Enforcement Unit, DEM Hazard Specialists, and RIDOT responded to assist with the investigation and the cleanup of the highway. The operator of the tractor-trailer, who was uninjured, received several moving violations as a result of the investigation.

All lanes of Rte. 95 and the access road for Smithfield Avenue were reopened at 7:53 a.m., according to the RISP.
