WARWICK, RI — T. F. Green International Airport was unaffected by a global computer outage this morning, though a spokesman advised double-checking arrivals and departures as other airlines and businesses struggled.
The outage, the Associated Press reported, was caused when cybersecurity company Crowdstrike deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft operating systems. The Associated Press is posting live updates as the incident affects airlines and has knocked out operations of banks and some media outlets.
“Due to a global communications outage many airlines are experiencing delays. Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport is fully operational. However, we advise that travelers check with their airline regarding arrivals and departures. The TSA checkpoint at the airport is open as are all airport parking and concessions,” wrote John Goodman, Assistant Vice President, Media & Public Relations for Rhode Island Airport Corporation, which operates TF Green.
Flight tracker Flight Aware reported 25 flight cancellations at the airport Friday at about 9:50 a.m.
Kent Hospital, CNE facilities briefly affected
Care New England, which operates Kent Hospital on Toll Gate Road, was briefly affected by the outage, but quickly resolved the issue, according to Raina C. Smith, Senior Director of PR, Media Relations, and Communications at CNE.
“All Care New England (CNE) outpatient practices and patient care sites are open to our patient population and the community. Following a brief interruption, CNE has assessed and deployed the required resources to ensure safe patient care at all operating units. At this juncture, we do not foresee any additional interruption.”
