State Police Arrest 15 for DUI Columbus Day Weekend

WARWICK, RI — Rhode Island State Police arrested 15 people for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs over the holiday weekend after motor vehicle crashes and stops, three in Warwick.

No serious injuries were reported.

“Anyone who chooses to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs poses a tremendous risk to everyone on our roads,” Colonel Assumpico said. “We are fortunate that no deaths or serious injuries resulted from the alleged actions of these individuals. We hope these arrests send a strong message – that the Rhode Island State Police will not tolerate impaired driving on our roadways.”

Saturday, Oct. 6

Speeding past traffic stop On Saturday at 8: 50 p.m., troopers charged Michael Nickerson, 60, of 35 Canfield Ave., Warwick, with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, first offense, B.A.C. unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, first offense.

Troopers arrested Nickerson after he sped past a traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Warwick without slowing at 75 miles an hour.

He also was cited for speeding in excess of 11 miles an hour over the posted speed limit and laned roadway violations.

Erratic operator stopped, arrested Phillip Camire, 53, of 50 Bellevue St., East Fairhaven, MA, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, first offense, B.A.C. unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

He was arrested at approximately 6:15 p.m. Saturday by troopers responding a call for an erratic operator on Boston Neck Road in North Kingstown. He also was issued citations for no seatbelt-operator, laned roadway violations and operating left of center.

Erratic operator stopped, arrested on DUI charge Carmen Cuba, 30, of 143 Sylvian St., Central Falls, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs, first offense, B.A.C greater than .15 (Phase I: .173/ Phase II: .166). He was arrested after Troopers received a call about 2:10 a.m. Saturday for a car being operated erratically on Rte. 10 in Cranston. He also was cited for laned roadway violations and turn signal required.

Rearview obstruction alerts troopers to DUI arrest Troopers charged Michael A. Goddard, 35, of 176 Norfolk Ave., Pawtucket with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs, first offense, B.A.C greater than .15 (Phase I: .172/ Phase II: .176); driving on a suspended license; and violation of a protection/no-contact order issued by Sixth Division District Court.

He was arrested at approximately 1:50 a.m. Saturday after troopers spotted him allegedly driving a motor vehicle with an obstructed view out the windshield, due to a large number of objects hanging from a rearview mirror. He also was charged with driving with a suspended/revoked/cancelled license and was cited for windshield and window stickers-obstructed view. He was held for arraignment in District Court on the violation.

Speeding driver nearly strikes trooper, arrested on DUI charge Victoria Robbins, 28, of 311 Logee St., Woonsocket, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs, first offense, B.A.C greater than .15 (Phase I: .195/ Phase II: .190). She was arrested at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Saturday on Route 146 in Lincoln after she allegedly was driving at a high rate of speed and nearly struck a State Police cruiser stopped on the side of the road while assisting a disabled motorist. She was also issued citations for conditions requiring reduced speed involving an emergency motor vehicle – move over law; turn signal required; and laned roadway violations

Driver arrested on DUI charge after swerving into oncoming traffic Yudis Mendez, 34, of 10 Judith St., Providence, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs, first offense, B.A.C greater than .15 (Phase I: .215/ Phase II: 235.) He was arrested at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday when Troopers spotted him allegedly swerve into oncoming traffic on Route 44/Putnam Pike in Johnston. He was charged with driving without/expired license and he was cited forfor failing to stay in his lane and not using a seat belt.

Sunday, Oct. 7

Speeding, erratic driver arrested for DUI Judson Lisiecka, 46, of 119 Westwood Ave., Cranston, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs, first offense, B.A.C greater than .15 (Phase I: .182/ Phase II: .190). he was arrested at approximately 2:15 a.m. Sunday after Troopers saw him allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed and crossing into the breakdown lane on I-95 at Exit 13 in Warwick. He was also cited for failing to stay in his lane.

Driver arrested for DUI after I-95 crash Isaurindo Ramos, 53 of 8 Bangor St., Warwick, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, first offense, B.A.C. .15 or greater (Phase I: .151) (Phase II: .154).

He was arrested at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday after Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash on I-95 in Warwick. He also was charged with driving after the suspension/revocation of his license.

Monday, Oct. 8

Driver arrested for DUI after I-195 crash Craig J. Corey, 28, of 69 Nimitz Road, East Providence, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, first offense, blood-alcohol content unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, first offense.

He was arrested after his vehicle allegedly struck another car traveling on I-195 East in Providence at about 10 p.m. Monday. He also was cited for possessing an alcoholic beverage while operating a motor vehicle; failure to report an accident; and failing to stay in his lane.

Driver arrested for DUI after hit and run crash Santos Hernandez Estrada, 19, of 5 Pleasant St., Newport, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, first offense, B.A.C. unknown; refusal to submit to a chemical test, first offense; driving without/expired license, second offense; and duty to stop – accident resulting in damage to an attended vehicle.

He was arrested after a hit-and-run crash was reported on Interstate 95 in Providence at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Monday.  He also was cited for failure to file an accident report; failure to maintain reasonable and prudent speeds; operating a motor vehicle without evidence of insurance; transportation of alcoholic beverage by a minor; and presence of alcoholic beverage while operating or riding in a motor vehicle.

Driver crashes into highway barrier, arrested for DUI Donald Moore, 28, of 48-B South St., Woonsocket, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, first offense, B.A.C. unknown (pending the results of blood tests). He was arrested around 12:40 a.m. Monday after a motor vehicle crash on Rte. 146 near Rte. 116 in Lincoln in which his vehicle struck a concrete barrier on the highway.

He was treated at Miriam Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and was later charged after he was released. He also was cited for operation of a vehicle when registration is cancelled; operating motor vehicle without evidence of insurance; and laned roadway violations. In addition, he was held for arraignment in District Court on a probation violation.

 

Joaquim Galvao, age 56, of 6 Winterberry Road, Lincoln, charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, first offense, B.A.C. unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.  He was arrested by Troopers responding to reports of an erratic operator on Interstate 95 South, near Charles Street, in Providence at approximately 12:15 a.m. Sunday. He also was cited for laned roadway violations.
