Runners remarked the race offered beautiful scenes and challenging hills, and vowed to run the course again in 2016. The third annual event’s field has shown modest growth. In 2014 about 400 runners participated, which was up from the inaugural year’s 350 runners.
Proceeds from the race benefit local charities. This year’s race recipients are A Wish Come True, Goodwill Industries, and the RI Center for Law and Public Policy.
This year’s RP5K top finishers in the mens and womens divisions were:
Men:
Kevin Cooper, a Providence College student from Ireland, with a first-place time of 15:13.1. 1 .
William Sanders of Wethersfield, CO, with second place time of 15:21. 8.
Stephen Flanagan of Providence with a third place time of 15:44.0.
Women:
Laura Nagel, a a Providence College student, in first place with 17:19.6.
Tracey Forte of West Kingston in second place with 20:24.5.
Michelle Lambert of Coventry in third with 21:20.7.
