RI Trooper Log: Arrests for DUI, Kratom Possession

Editor’s note: The following Warwick, RI area arrests recorded in the RI Trooper Log were reported by the RI State Police on their website. An arrest reflects charges against an individual, and does not indicate guilt or innocence.

WARWICK, RI —  Arrests in the RI Trooper Log between Nov. 19 and Nov. 23 in, nearby and involving Warwick were for offenses including three DUI arrests and an erratic driver arrested for possession of Kratom, labeled a schedule-1 controlled substance in RI earlier this year. The drug’s effects are similar to opiates, ranging from stimulating at low does to opiate effects at higher doses.

Rte. 95 traffic stop ends with DUI arrest On Nov. 20, 2017 at 11:52 a.m., troopers arrested James McCue, 26, of 65 Sunset Ave., Warwick, Rhode Island for 1) Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs – 1st Offense – BAC Unknown and 2) Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.

The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Rte. 95 North in Warwick. McCue was transported to the State Police Wickford Barracks, processed, and turned over to Third District Court for arraignment.

Centerville Road stop ends with DUI arrest On Nov. 22, 2017 at 10:37 p.m., troopers arrested Ronald Giscombe, 70, of 3459 Post Road, Warwick, RI, for Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs – 1st Offense, .15 or Greater (Phase I: .147 , Phase II: .151).

The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Centerville Road in Warwick. Giscombe was transported to the Wickford Barracks, processed, arraigned by Justice of the Peace, and released to the custody of a responsible adult.

Erratic driver, Kratom in car, arrested on assault, possession charges On Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at 8:40 p.m., troopers arrested David Castelli, 26, of 44 Watson Avenue, Narragansett, Rhode Island, for 1.) Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs BAC unknown – First Offense; 2.) Resisting arrest; 3.) Disorderly conduct; 4.) Simple assault; 5.) Obstruction; 6.) Refusal to submit to a chemical test – Second offense; 7.) Possession of a controlled substance Schedule I-V (Kratom); and 8.) Driving while in possession of a controlled substance (Kratom).

The arrest was the result of troopers responding to calls for an erratic operator and a subsequent motor vehicle stop on Rte. 95 North, in Warwick. Castelli was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, and held overnight pending arraignment/presentment as a probation violator.

Rte. 95 stop ends in DUI arrest On Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at 2:05 a.m., troopers arrested Leonardo Rodriguez, 58, of 15 Revere Street, West Warwick, Rhode Island, for 1.) Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs BAC .15 or greater – First offense (Phase I BAC = .158; Phase II BAC = .160).

The arrest was a result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 South, in the City of Warwick. Rodriguez was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, and held overnight pending arraignment.

  1. Arresting people for kratom…smh Meanwhile Rhode Island has a heroin epidemic of massive proportion. Your state legislatures there are total idiots

  2. Kratom should not be illegal. It is like a tea or coffee and saves people from Opiod addiction. Good alternative to big pharma Opiod pills. Not once have I ever encountered a high from it, or anything bad from it.
